Sustainable WASH for All in Kwania District

Water point governance, hygiene and school WASH in two sub-counties under SWaSSH4A Phase II.

Objective

Strengthen the people and structures that keep water points working, help households adopt safe sanitation and hygiene, and support schools to manage menstrual health.

What we are doing

  • Mapping 110 boreholes across Aduku and Ayabi sub-counties.
  • Training village health teams, two per parish, in sanitation demand creation, hygiene promotion and sanitation marketing.
  • Holding parish meetings on water governance and water integrity.
  • Supporting the district with ODF verification.
  • Working with 10 schools on menstrual health training, pupil WASH clubs and school WASH improvement teams.

Why it matters

Hand-pump boreholes, latrines and school facilities only serve people if someone looks after them. By building the skills of village health teams, extension workers, water committees and teachers, the project aims for services that continue after it ends.
